Divers and critical letters, 1753.

Manuscript, in a single hand, of English translations, by John Farrington, of Beaumont's letters to her family and acquaintances, in which she provides moral and social instruction and advice. In a letter to her daughter, she emphasizes the importance of mildness; a letter to her niece advises her to cultivate judgment and a good heart; in other letters, she critiques her correspondents' choice of frivolous clothing, and describes her own upbringing as well as that of other pious women who explain how they were tempted to ruin, and then saved. This section of the manuscript is followed by another labeled "Volume 2nd," which consists of a lengthy letter to the author of a book titled "Manners" with suggestions for and criticism of the work, followed by advice to parents and masters on the education of children.

2 vols. (in one): (220 and 156 p.) ; 17 x 11 cm.
